Locking up your SUP 9 Months, 1 Week ago
Today i got in the post a surfboard lock for my SUPS as i have to keep them outside. Eventhough a standard theif would probably look pretty dubious walking down the street with a 12ft board on their head, i still feel more comfortable with a bit of security.

The lock is from www.gumbylock.com.au and cost approx $50 each. A little expensnive but does the trick. I can even lock them to my car now.

Does anyone else use a locking system for their boards?

Same problem with my 12'6" SUP, where do I put it?
have semi on Sydney road in walking distance to Manly pubs and drunks often stumble up my path.
We have timber planked house so I have screwed hooks into the boards and stand my board on its nose almost to the gutter.A little visible from the road but behind agate with "Beware of dog" sign.
let me introduce you to "Logan" an American Bulldog bitch who has decided this new board is hers.
We went out for a meal the other night and came home to Logan outside the gate barking at everyone going past the gate.
Some one had thought they could come and have a look at my board not aware that as soon as they unlatched the gate Logan hears them. They bolt leaving the gate open and Logan sit there awaiting her next victim.Get a possesive bitch I say!

I have the locking straps which I hope will deter the casual theif, the shorter one that works on my 9'6" will only go around the tail of the Laird though. keeps it on the roof of the car.

I use the Steel Core straps -- 99 bucks US, but you can use them in place of standard straps and they've already saved my board once. Someone cut them with a knife in Lahina (Maui) but they couldn't cut the steel cable of course. The standard surfboard rip off artist in Hawaii walks by the car with a very sharp knife and cuts the straps, then turns around and lifts the board off and walks away.

I was able to repair the straps. I took pictures of the repair and I'll post it on Ke Nalu soon. http://www.kenalu.com
