Surfing a SUP 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Hey
i recently purchased a kalama 11'6 and took it out into the surf for the first time today
it was relatively small
not to much wind and chop wasn't to bad
but i found it tremendously hard to
1. stay on the board
2. keep the board from rocking around wildly
3. catch anything
4. turn
i know im only a beginner but from when ive seen people supping and seeing others supping today it looks so much easier
can anyone provide any tips on what to do in the surf
e.g weight distribution
tips for turning and staying balance
any help would be greatly appreciated
Tom

It is one of those things that you really have to work at, I have only been in the surf a dozen times now and catching waves is easy........... now. I trained in flat canals of gold coast before I tried the surf and I watch heaps of you tube there are good tutorials on there. I wish I would have driven to Noosa and had a lesson first off.
Just stick at it, when you get it you will get stoked!

Find an easy point, out of the wind with a really small wave.
Then take it easy; catch some runners and stay out of people's way.

When you feel the wave pick you up THEN go into the surfing stance.
Being stoked is guaranteed.

Hope to see you out there one day.
